Anybody but Zuma campaign

A group of disgruntled ANC members want to replace President Jacob Zuma before the national elections next year.

The New Age reported that ABZ (Anybody But Zuma) group is mustering support for a special national general council of the ANC to be convened to discuss the leadership of Zuma.

The ABZ group and several members of Zuma’s Cabinet had campaigned for Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe at the ANC’s elective conference in Mangaung last year.

Their plan is to remove Zuma and put Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe as acting president ahead of the elections.

They also want  Cyril Ramaphosa as president of the country.

Apparently the dissident group, emboldened by Zuma’s perceived difficulties over Nkandla, will challenge his leadership and call for his removal.

ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu denied that there had been or would be a push for a national general council on the basis of “a made-up newspaper report”.
