Ask Sis Dolly: He drinks too much

By Drum Digital

I’m 37 and have been married for 13 years to my 39-year-old husband. He’s a diabetic and has high blood pressure, yet he still drinks, sometimes every day, and sometimes binges for weeks on end.

He just can’t overcome his drinking problem. How can l help him stop and focus on his health? I don’t want to lose him to another woman or to death, so please help me.

Sis Dolly answers

Are you worried about his health or the possibility of him cheating? Be clear about where your concern lies.

Your best bet is to take him to a doctor who will sit him down and give him a clear picture of how he’s affecting his health.

If he’s an alcoholic, and unable to acknowledge this condition, then convincing him to seek help might be a longer and more difficult process, but it’s not impossible.

Ask the medical doctor for a referral to an organisation in your area that deals with alcohol addiction, or for more advice call the South African National Council on

Alcoholism & Drug Dependence (Sanca) on

0861-472-622.
