Ask sis Dolly: He has no ambition

I've even been job-hunting for him...

I'm 24 and a third year law student. I've been dating my boyfriend for four years and the problem with him is that he lacks ambition. I forced him to get his matric when we started dating and now I've been telling him to get his learner's licence because he told me he wants to be a police officer. I've even been job-hunting for him on the internet and I've been a good girlfriend but now I'm tired. I don't think I love him any more but I don't know how to tell him. He also doesn't know how to express himself and share stuff that bothers him.

Sis Dolly answers:

Are you his mother or his girlfriend? Why are you forcing anyone to do anything? Why are you job-hunting for him? What is a good girlfriend? You sound very controlling, which is why it's not a surprise that he doesn't share stuff. I'm sure everything he says or does you correct and criticise. I would hate to be with someone who says that I lack ambition and who constantly tells me what to do. The reason you don't love him any more is because he's not willing to follow your command. I would definitely leave this poor man alone because he's not good enough for you and possibly never will be. Having said that, he also needs to man-up and get some drive so that he doesn't always end up being told what to do by other people.
