Ask Sis Dolly: He won't marry me

In February this year, I found out I was pregnant and suggested we get married at Home Affairs, he told me he’s not ready to take that step and asked why I’m in a hurry

I’m 26 and my fiancé is 28. He paid some of my lobolo in 2011 and in 2013 we had a child. In 2014, we had a traditional wedding after he paid the full lobolo.

In February this year, I found out I was pregnant and suggested we get married at Home Affairs. He told me he’s not ready to take that step and asked why I’m in a hurry.

Now I’m confused. Am I wrong?

Sis Dolly answers

You’re not wrong for wanting to secure a stable family before your child is born. He indicated his intentions and it’s been five years now.

It seems as if he’s got cold feet, but not telling you. You and your partner need to talk about his sudden fear of commitment and if he still intends to marry you.

This will help you know where you stand so you can make plans.

I advise you to both attend premarital counselling. You can suggest this to your partner and then call Famsa on 011-975- 7106/7 to set up an appointment with a counsellor.
