Ask Sis Dolly: Our friendship is over

I have a childhood friend who acts as if we’re lovers and is very clingy.

I have a childhood friend who acts as if we’re lovers and is very clingy.

I want to hang around with my new friends but she doesn’t fit in with them.

I’m scared she’ll spoil my chance to get in with the “It” girls.

How can I let her down without hurting her feelings

Sis Dolly Answers

As we grow older, our relationships change.

It’s normal for friends to drift apart. Sometimes it is painless. But other times it isn’t.

Be honest with her and let her know you’d love to expand your friendships.

She clings to you because she still thinks you’re close. Your honesty might hurt her a bit but she’ll respect you in the long run.

Don’t feel bad – friendships evolve and grow cold. She can’t hold this against you if you’re honest and don’t base this on what your “It” girls are saying about her.

Don’t completely cut her out, though, as today’s “nerds” could become tomorrow’s “stars”.
