Ask Sis Dolly: Should I leave him?

I’m a 31-year-old woman and I’ve been married for two years. I gave birth last year and a month ago I found out my husband has a girlfriend and they had lived together while I was at my parents’ place after the birth.

During my maternity leave, he even introduced our eldest daughter to her. Our daughter hates him for that. I still love him, but our daughter wants me to leave him.

He does not even care for or provide for our kids. Will I be wrong to listen to our daughter and leave him?

Sis Dolly Answers:

I'm not condoning what your husband did, but it is your responsibility to ensure your daughter understands that

this is between you and your husband.

Do not encourage their father-daughter relationship to become strained. On the other hand, you need to decide what to do about the fact that he’s not providing for your children.

If you’re willing to give your marriage another chance, then I suggest you seek couple’s counselling. If not, you can do individual counselling so you can make rational decisions. You can also go to your nearest Magistrate’s court and apply for maintenance for your children.

You can do this even if you’re married. To set up a counselling session, call Famsa on 011-975-7106/7.
