Baby rape case postponed

A Northern Cape man accused of raping a six-week-old baby in Galeshewe appeared in court and the case was postponed.

A Northern Cape man accused of raping a six-week-old baby in Galeshewe appeared in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court on Thursday, a court official said.

The matter was postponed to December 12 for a formal bail application.

The 24-year-old man allegedly raped the baby around 11.30pm on Tuesday.

The Star reported that the man was the baby's uncle.

The newspaper quoted Northern Cape health department spokeswoman Lulu Mxekezo as saying the baby was in a critical but stable condition in Kimberley Hospital's intensive care unit.
