The festive season is around the corner, a time of the year notorious for road accidents and  related deaths.

The South African Government has urged citizens to be cautious on the roads during this time. To raise awareness October was named Transport Month, and even though it’s over, Acting Cabinet Spokesperson Phumla Williams reminded road users to exercise extreme caution.

She said the government hosted the second National Road Summit from 13 to 14 November 2015 to reinforceand advance efforts to ensure that the country’s roads are safe. The summit assessed the progress that has been made and challenges being encountered regarding road safety in the country.

Williams also says that the traffic enforcement agencies will embark on law enforcement programmes to try and reduce deaths on the roads during this period.

“The country cannot afford more deaths caused by road accidents than it has already experienced,” she added.
