Beloved braids

Protect your hair.

We all love braiding our hair every once in a while, but it is important to ensure that our beloved braids dont cause any permanent damage.

Check the size

Be careful not to wear extra-large braids if your hair is thin. The braids add weight to the hair, stressing the hair follicles as your hairstyle ages. In time your hair can actually loosen away from your scalp. Make sure the braid size is appropriate for the thickness of your hair.  You shouldn’t have a thick braid hanging on a thin strand of hair.

Moisturize

If you want to make sure your natural hair doesn’t get damaged, then moisturizing is essential.  Wash your braids at least once a week. Be gentle, don’t tug or pull the braids while wet. After washing spray on a water based leave in conditioner use, when moisturizing, the focus should be on your scalp. Leave your braids to air dry. Olive oil, coconut, and jojoba oils are great for locking in moisture.

Moisturizing regularly will also soften your hair, making it easier for the braids to come off without damaging your hair.
