“Thirteen years ago I was chosen as one of the Red Bull Music Academy students in Cape Town. That was a life changing experience for me."

In 2003 Nkosinathi Maphumulo, better-known as DJ Black Coffee, was chosen to be one of the music students to participate at the Red Bull Academy in Cape Town, where he says his career was given a jump-start. This year, world renowned DJ Black Coffee was one of the people asked to give a lecture to music students at the Red Bull Music Academy in Montréal‚ Canada. “Thirteen years ago I was chosen as one of the Red Bull Music Academy students in Cape Town. That was a life changing experience for me. It changed the way I saw the world, how I consumed and produced music. Today I’m sitting on the other side of the room giving my first lecture in Montreal, quite a surreal moment,” said Black Coffee. Black Coffee has performed alongside some of the world’s most recognised artists such as P Diddy, Drake, Wizkid and Louie Vega.
