A woman was shot dead by her husband at the Parkview police station before he turned the gun on himself.

The Times reports that Lana Perreira Marques, 45, was filling out domestic violence documents against her husband Gabriel da Silva, 47, when he shot her in the head.

The couple had just arrived at the station in two separate vehicles when da Silva excused himself to fetch his spectacles but  instead, returned with a firearm.

After fatally shooting his wife, he threatened five police officers with the revolver.

When the officers attempted to take the gun away from him, he turned the gun on himself and ended his own life.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini says that the cause of the argument is unknown.
