Boerewors, bacon and vetkoek all on one plate – what could be easier or more enticing for the whole family? Try this delicious Checkers  recipe today.

You'll need:

  • 8 - 10 skewers
  • 500g Championship Boerewors

For the sauce you'll need:

  • 30ml (1 tbsp) fresh thyme
  • 60ml (¼ cup) olive oil
  • Grated zest of 1 lemon
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • 5ml (1 tsp) Worcester sauce

For the assembly you'll need:

  • 250g streaky bacon rashers

Do this:

Soak the skewers in warm salted water for 5 hrs or overnight to prevent them from burning. Braai the Championship Boerewors until done and cut into bite-size pieces.

Sauce:

Mix all the sauce ingredients.

Assembly

Brush the bacon with the sauce and wrap a strip around each piece of boerewors. Thread onto the skewers. Brush the kebabs with the remaining sauce and braai or grill in the oven until the bacon is crispy. Serve with chutney and vetkoek.
