It’s an apt description of a woman with an unusual name and extraordinary life.

Stanley Ann Dunham was an anthropologist and development consultant in Indonesia who believed people’s lives could be changed for the better.

More the pity, then, that she’ll mostly be remembered only as the mother of the first black US president.
