Business is booming for a newly opened sex shop near Parliament in Cape Town.

Business is booming for a newly opened sex shop near Parliament in Cape Town, The Star reported on Wednesday.

"It is business and expansion as usual, people are coming in and tweeting pictures of themselves at the store," Adult World spokesman Sean Newman told the newspaper.

Last month, the ANC objected to the shop operating next to Parliament.

African National Congress chief whip Stone Sizani said the party would take legal advice on the lawfulness of the shop operating close to the legislature.

The Cape Town city council said it was investigating the shop because the company allegedly failed to apply for special licences required by the sex industry.

However, Adult World previously said the licences it received from the city and the Film and Publication Board a decade ago to operate a shop at the same premises were still valid.

Newman told the newspaper the ANC was undermining the constitution.

"Pre-1994 we were told what we could and could not do," he was quoted as saying.

"Today people have freedom to do as they pleased, the public love Adult World stores and the public are not told what to do."  - Sapa
