NCOP Chairperson Thandi Modise welcomes us into her home and reveals how she goes from being a loving matriarch to putting rowdy politicians in check

She has a well-earned reputation for being a no nonsense and combative politician who doesn’t suffer fools gladly.

So no wonder it didn’t take National Council of Provinces (NCOP) Chairperson Thandi Modise too long to whip rowdy Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MPs into line at the recent opening of Parliament, forcing them to leave the house before the legislature’s security could be called in to intervene.

Those who have been following ANC palace politics will remember how Modise fought fiercely to keep her position in the ANC top-level leadership in Mangaung in 2012, only to pull out at the last minute in favour of Jessie Duarte.
