Last night they partied up a storm at the SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards – now some of South Africa’s top celebrities have a real storm to contend with. They’re currently stuck at Durban’s King Shaka Airport after a hail storm hit Johannesburg this afternoon. Apparently SA’s 13:55 flight from King Shaka couldn’t land at Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport because of the storm, and had to return to Durban. Inside the plane were Gospel heavyweights Solly Mahlangu and Mahalia Buchanan (who won the Best Gospel Newcomer awards), Maduvha and Uche. Radio personality Lerato Kganyago, SA FM presenter Khanyi Magubane and Real Goboza presenter Amanda Du-Pont were also among the passengers.

Khanyi confirms the incident, stating that they return back to Durban because of the bad weather. “We are sitting here singing just to push time,” she says. Khanyi revealed that while they’ve been praying for the rain, the timing could be better: “Some people missed their connecting flight to Joburg.”

“Some people missed their connecting flight to Joburg.” Khanyi said they had no idea what time they will leave Durban again but the airline is keeping them updated.
