While many are blasting Sandton’s Rivers Church Pastor, Andre Olivier over what many are calling a racist sermon on Sunday, some local celebrities have come in defense of the pastor.

Olivier allegedly said that whites deserve their wealth because they worked for it, which has been taken to imply that black people are lazy. Since the allegations surfaced, he has said he was responding to a statement made on TV on Youth Day that whites are “a problem” in South Africa. Apparently his point was that God often sends us people who help us despite being of a different race.

“It's sad that people will twist things and take things out of context... Just beyond me honestly!!!” tweeted Top Billing presenter Lorna Maseko.

Actor Tumisho Masha agreed. “There are a lot of racists in SA & I have fought many & will continue2do so but @AndreGOlivier @RiversChurch are not in any way racist!” posted Tumisho who calls Pastor Olivier his spiritual father.

But some of their followers and other celebs weren’t impressed, with actor Tony Kgoroge blasting Tumisho: “Then my good friend @TumishoMasha supports such nonsense.”
