SHE beat more than 2 000 contestants to scoop one of the most coveted entertainment jobs in TV. At just 21, the energetic Dineo Moeketsi replaces Nonhle Thema as host of Channel O’s O Access. But while she may be one of the freshest personalities on TV, she is no stranger to the small screen, having also acted in Soul City Season 10. That nerve-wracking experience, however, was nothing compared to interviewing the biggest names in American hip-hop and R&B. We hooked up with Dineo upon her return from her daunting four-month stint in Los Angeles to find out what the future holds for her.

So what was Los Angeles like? LA was an amazing experience. My first interview was with Melanie Fiona (nominated for a Grammy with John Legend and The Roots for their collaboration on Wake Up Everybody) and I was so nervous my heart jumped. But I learnt to keep my cool so I could do the job I was required to do.

Was it your first time overseas?

No – I stayed in New York for nine months while I studied for a bachelor degree in jazz studies, so that made it easy for me to adjust in LA. I learnt so much during my time in LA – what you learn in a year in business school, I learnt in four months. I ended up learning so much about the music industry, including the fact that the artists take their careers seriously there.
