To kick-start the Durban July weekend festivities Gagasi FM with Vodacom Durban July hosted the 99% Zulu Comedy Show.

The Durban July is one of the biggest highlights in South Africa’s entertainment industry.

It’s a time when horse racing brings together fashion, music, art and comedy. And to kick-start the festivities Gagasi FM with Vodacom Durban July hosted the 99% Zulu Comedy at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban on Thursday night.

conrad Chester Missing with his 'associate' Conrad Koch.

“This is one of the first official Durban July opening events and we are excited about it, “ said Khulekani Shandu from Gagasi. The venue was sold out as KZN-born funny man Sifiso Nene hosted an array of comedians who included Simphiwe Shembe, Mpukane and Aggri from Cape Town.

Sifiso announced during the show that he had made it to the top five of the best comedy acts at the 2014 Comics Choice Awards, out of  170 other comedians.

The audience asked for the voting number and voted for him during the show immediately after this revelation.

The show was filled with laughs from start to finish but it was puppet act Chester Missing who got a roaring cheer and standing ovation.

“We try to do stuff that relates to people but I also keep it interesting,” said Conrad Koch (Chester’s associate). Chester’s set was so amazing that scores of people were asking for pictures after the show to which Chester obliged until he was tired and retired to his bag.

“Today I spent the whole day seated in this bag, I was bored and had nothing to do, just like Telkom workers. Now that I have worked I feel so much better” Chester said before retiring to rest.

The 99% Zulu Comedy will  move to Johannesburg at Emperors Place on the 18 to 19th of July and Chester promised to come to play again. - By MOLIFE KUMONA
