, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) have reported.

EMS spokesperson Chris Botha reported that two people, including the bus driver, were in a critical condition in hospital.

The bus which was travelling between Warden and Harrismith on the N3 was completely gutted.

“The school bus apparently caught fire while still in motion and came to a rest against the embankment on the opposite side of the road,” Botha explained. It is still unclear how or why the bus caught fire.

At the time of the interview Paramedics were still searching for other children who had not been accounted for. “The fire has now been put out by the fire brigade but there are two children who are unaccounted for and rescue workers are currently searching for them in the wreckage,” said Botha.
