Joburg's pointsmen looking for new sponsor.

On Tuesday, News24 reported that the contract to employ about 300 pointsmen in Johannesburg will be expiring at the end of July, but the city's metro policy has told motorists not to worry. The pointsmen have been sponsored by Outsurance for years.

Spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar is reported to have said that adverts had been placed in newspapers inviting interested parties to bid for the new three-year contract.

“Companies have shown an interest and the service to motorists should not be affected,” Minnaar said.

It is said that provision had been made for the new company to employ the current pointsmen and the successful bidder will pay their salaries, provide them with their uniforms and motorbikes. The metro police will train them.
