Contrelesa requests Presidential pardon for Dalindyebo

President Jacob Zuma has received a letter and petition from the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (Contralesa)

Eastern Cape Provincial Chairperson, Inkosi Mwelo Nonkonyane, requesting that the he considers granting King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo a Presidential Pardon.

The President’s spokesperson says the President forwarded the petition and letter to the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services for further processing, as the department is responsible for such an application. “Upon completion of all the internal processes, the minister will submit the King's application for pardon to the President for a decision,” said Majola.

The abaThembu king is serving a 12-year-sentence for murder, arson and defeating the ends of justice at the East London Medium C Correctional Centre. The crimes were committed against his own subjects.
