His identity has not been exposed as he is under police witness protection and gives his testimonies via video link.

Mr X, the police witness resumed his testimony today in Pretoria at the Farlam Commission of Inquiry over the Marikana incidents that happened in August 2012.

His identity is still top of evidence leaders’ argument.

Geoff Budlender, SC, head of evidence leaders at the inquiry, has said Mr X isn’t the person he said he is in photographs take in August 2012 during the Lonmin Strike.

"You have said to this commission you are not the person seen in the bottom photograph. I want to put it to you that it is the same person seen in the upper photograph, including his same clothes and blanket," Budlender said.

Mr X insists that he is the man in the photographs that show some of the protestors during the strike.

44 people including two policemen, two security guards and Lonmin striking mineworkers were killed when police and the striking miners clashed on August 16 2012.

The commission is investigating these deaths.
