The deaths of two Young Communist League (YCLSA) members was described as an appalling tragedy by the Congress of South African Trade Unions on Sunday.

"It is an appalling tragedy to lose the lives of three such young, committed cadres within a matter of days...they were all future leaders of our revolutionary,' spokesman Patrick Craven said.

Gauteng Provincial Secretary Maria Kebarutile Mochaka and former Student Union for Christian Action activist Chemist Khumalo died in a car accident.

They were on their way to the funeral of YCLSA deputy national secretary, Mike Mokhutshane who died last Sunday.

Mokhutshane was buried in Sannieshof on Saturday.

YCLSA spokesman Mangaliso Khonza said the deaths were a great loss to the league.

"It's a great loss for the YCLSA and the SACP [SA Communist Party] to lose two cadres of the highest calibre in a space of two weeks."
