Cuba ups ante in fight against Ebola

Cuba has pledged almost 300 additional doctors and nurses to help fight Ebola in West Africa.

The number of Cuban medical personnel will be hiked to about 461 after this additional help I sent.

They have been working in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia.

Head of the Cuban medical relief agency, Regla Angulo, said the staff undergoes intense training before being sent to fight the fatal illness.

They are trained in mock field hospitals similar to those they expect to find when working in the West African countries.

Cuba had pledged 165 doctors and nurses for Sierra Leone alone.
