An Indian politician is celebrating his 45th birthday this Friday in a custom-made gold shirt.

Pankaj Parakh, who made his fortune through a garment business, after quitting school in Grade 8, says gold always fascinated him.

For his wedding, 23 years ago, he had sported more gold than his bride. He claims that many guests had then considered him an embarrassment.

Parakh, who belongs to the Nationalist Congress Party, made his fortune through a garment business after quitting school in Class 8, and is a member of the municipal corporation of Yeloa, about 260 kms from Mumbai.

"Gold has always fascinated me since I was five years old and studying in school. Over the years, I have become passionate about this royal metal. I have got this special shirt stitched to mark my 45th birthday this Friday," Parakh said.

The shirt was designed in Nashik,  and then created by jewelers in Mumbai, where a team of around 20 select artisans spent 3,200 hours over the past two months to 'stitch' it.

The shirt weighs four kilograms and costs a staggering Rs.1.30 crore (R2,295,860).

Unfortunately, he can’t exactly get away from it all on his stroll, as he’s employed a small army to make sure his luxe threads are safe from thieves.
