DA in commanding lead in Cape Town

The Democratic Alliance held a commanding 61% of the votes in the City of Cape Town in the early stages of counting on Thursday.

Of the little more than a million votes counted, the DA captured 629,489 so far, while the African National Congress mustered 314,563 (30.60%).

The Economic Freedom Fighters were lying third with 26,428 votes cast in their favour for a 2.57%.

With just under two million people registered in the metropole, the figures gave a strong indication of the final result in the Mother City.
