Designer David Tlale will be taking two young designers to New York next year.

The designer is taking mentees under his wing and empowering them.

Two most promising designers will be given an opportunity to do a full year internship with David in Johannesburg and get to go with him to New York in September for Fashion Week.

David is partnering with the Kwazulu Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism to take designers on a journey of working.

The designers will experience the demands and realities of the fashion world and the business of fashion.

“There’s a profound difference between the theoretical work and a hands-on experience; I feel that this would give young designers an enriching practice,” says David.

“This way they get to see us work as we build a collection from scratch,” he said.

“The designer will get to work behind the scenes at fashion week and catch a glimpse of the fashion week mania, as well as seeing the day-to-day running of a fashion business,” adds Tlale.
