Most children – and their parents – love a hearty bowl of pasta. Here’s a deliciously easy recipe for the whole family.

Most children love pasta. Use it as a base and add vegetables to make a balanced meal.

Makes 4 to 6 portions

Preparation time: 15 min

Cooking time: 15 to 20 min

250 g pasta of your choice

50 g butter

50 ml flour

250 ml low-fat milk

salt and freshly ground

black pepper

2 cheese wedges (optional)

1 egg, beaten

100 g peas

50 g spinach, shredded

100 g cheese, grated

Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Boil the pasta until al dente, drain and set aside. Heat the butter in a saucepan and stir in the flour until a roux forms. Add the milk and stir with a wooden spoon or beater. Reduce the heat and stir until the sauce thickens. Season with salt and pepper. Let the white sauce cool slightly and stir in the cheese and egg. Stir in the peas and spinach and mix with the pasta. Spoon the mixture into small bowls and sprinkle with cheese. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Top tip: A roux is a thickened mixture of butter and flour. Stir 125 g cooked bacon or chopped sausages into the white sauce for variation.
