A R125 000 bill by Limpopo's deputy speaker for downloading porn is now being investigated by the public protector.

Limpopo province's deputy speaker Lehlogonolo Masoga has apparently raked up a R125 000 cellphone bill for downloading pornography while he was on an overseas trip.

City Press reports that Masoga was on an official trip in August last year in the USA when the alleged incidents occurred but the bill only came to light in January this year.

Supply manager at the legislature Maite Toona brought the bill to light but has since been suspended, supposedly for not approving the payment of the deputy speaker's bill.

The public protector is now reported to be investigating the payment of the bill which has been allegedly paid by the legislature.

Masoga and the legislature have since released a joint press release where they rubbish the porn bill claims.

The weekly quotes the statement as saying the entire situation is a “smear campaign anchored on a cheap, beer-talk conspiracy to rubbish Masoga’s name”

“I reject with contempt the malicious, libelous and defamatory allegations levelled against me by some not-so-faceless conspirators to injure my integrity for cheap political motives,” said Masoga in the statement.

Masoga also goes on to say that he will cooperate with the Public Protector's office.

A source for City Press has said that the bill and its payment have become an "open secret" in the legislature as the subject has become a hot topic for all the members.
