Dineo Ranaka on living in fear

She’s never been afraid to speak her mind – not even when it comes to difficult topics such as xenophobia. Dineo Ranaka says she fears for her life because her children’s fathers are foreigners.

IT’S A cold and overcast April afternoon when we head to Auckland Park to meet up with the star of Dineo’s Diary. We’re about to find out that the grim weather mirrors her mood.

We arrive at Burnt Onion Productions’ studios, where Dineo Ranaka records her reality show, but she’s not there yet. She calls us to say she’ll be late because she’s running errands with her father ahead of a trip to Botswana – a family trip that she says means a lot to him as he wants to see his family reunited there.
