A dog has been called as a witness in French court after witnessing a brutal murder.

A dog stood as a witness in a murder trial.

Tango, a nine-year-old Labrador, was called to the stand as prosecutors believed he would recognise the killer of his owner who was murdered after a fight broke out in Tours, central France.

It was thought the pooch would be able to identify the alleged murderer by barking or making other signs while they threatened him with a bat.

Although a second dog, Norman, of the same breed and age was also called in to undergo the test both failed to react and made no signs of recognising the man, reports The Express newspaper.
