Donations for Presidency a scam

The Presidency says the various requests for donations in support of President Jacob Zuma are a scam.

It alerts the public to the fact that it hasn’t opened any account for this specific purpose and therefore no request has been made to any member of the public to contribute.

“The public should be aware that no request has been made whatsoever,” Dr Bongani Ngqulunga, the spokesperson of the Presidency, says.

Dr Ngqulunga confirms social media scams started yesterday afternoon. This was after the Presidency confirmed it had received the Nkandla payback report from the National Treasury. The report ordered the President to pay back R7,8 million towards the non-security upgrades to his private homestead in KwaZulu-Natal.

The scams request members of the public to deposit money into different bank accounts to help President Zuma pay the bill.

Dr Ngqulunga adds that those involved in the scams will experience the full arm of the law.
