"Dreams come true" - Khune

It’s late Thursday evening when the two soccer stars arrive at one of Jozi’s best-kept secrets – The Fairlawns Hotel in the leafy suburb of Morningside Manor.

They are fresh from training and look seriously energised. Bafana Bafana goalkeeper and Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune (25) looks exhilarated to be back in action after being booked off for 10 days.

The goalie suffered a concussion when he collided with an Arrows defender during a recent match. The other player is Itumeleng’s younger brother, best friend and team mate, Lucky (22). Itumeleng in true kasi style calls out a greeting, “Dumelang! Dumelang! Majita.

“This is my brother, Lucky, and let me just warn you he can be shy sometimes,” Itumeleng jokes as he playfully chases his sibling around the foyer. Lucky bursts out laughing and replies,

“You really can be stupid sometimes, my bro!”

Accompanying them are their two cousins and it’s a pleasant sight to see how tight the two siblings, who both play for Kaizer Chiefs, are off the pitch.

Itumeleng pauses to look around the hotel and says, “You couldn’t have chosen a better location for the shoot. I have been to hotels before but this one is special.”

Itumeleng has always been rather publicity shy with the result that there’s been little written about his personal life and that of his brother.

He and Lucky may come across as quiet at first and it’s easy to be fooled by their shy act but once they open up they’re a barrel of laughs.
