Happiness' friend brighten her mood.

“Well, I’m glad you confided in me,” Juliet said. “You’d better get changed. Are you going to buy this outfit?”

“I have no choice now as I ripped the seam,” Happiness smiled. “I’m going to buy that purple dress on the mannequin in the window as well. It seems forever since I had anything new to wear.”

“That’s the spirit, girlfriend!” Juliet hugged her. “You’re far too gorgeous to hide that body of yours under those frumpy clothes.”

Happiness seemed almost her usual self as she grinned at her friend. “I’ll just go and get that purple dress.” “After the meeting you’re going to get dressed up and we’re going out on the town. I’ve got my make-up kit in my bag. I’m going to do your face.” “Sounds great,” Happiness said as her grin grew broader. She felt as if a huge weight had lifted off her shoulders. “I hope you made a good sale with that difficult customer,” Veronica said, suddenly appearing at the changing room door. There wassteel in her voice. “Ahem . . .” Happiness started to stammer. “Yes, we have everything under control,” Juliet said, taking the clothes from Happiness without batting an eyelid.

“Don’t forget to give her her staff discount,” Veronica said. Both women looked at their boss with their mouths hanging open.

“Juliet is right,” Veronica went on. “You look stunning in that outfit, Happiness. There’s a pair of boots with six-inch stiletto heels on sale right now. They’ll go perfectly with that purple dress. You’d best buy them before somebody else does!”

Both women looked incredulously at their boss. It was as if they couldn’t believe what they were hearing.

Veronica produced a tiny transmitter that she had in her bag.

“I wasn’t actually eavesdropping but with so much theft these days,

it’s better to be safe than sorry.”

“Are you doing anything tonight, Veronica?” Juliet asked.

“Well if you’re asking me to go out for a drink with you, the answer is yes. I’d love to join you!”

Veronica giggled, making her look years younger. “I’ll first have to change out of my office clothes though. See you in 10.”

“Gosh, I’m sorry,” Mpho came running up as soon as she saw Veronica going back to her office. “I tried to stall her as long as I could. I hope she didn’t sound off too much on you.”

“It’s okay, Mpho. Everything is just fine. We really appreciate what you did.”
