KZN EMS paramedics are on the scene backing up the Durban fire department, who are fighting the large blaze, which at this stage has destroyed an estimated 100 dwellings.

A fire that destroyed 100 dwellings was still blazing through the Kennedy Road informal settlement in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services said on Friday. "KZN EMS paramedics are on the scene backing up the Durban fire department, who are fighting the large blaze, which at this stage has destroyed an estimated 100 dwellings," said spokesman Robert Mckenzie.

The fire was being fuelled by strong winds. The cause of the blaze was not known, he said.

Paramedics treated a woman who had sustained burns and was in a serious but stable condition.
