This week, the Durban Flying Squad Narcotics Drug Unit clamped down on drug related crimes when a Denzel Chetty (32) was arrested for the possession of 32 straws of heroin, R960 cash and a two-way radio.

It is alleged that dealers and their runners have been using the private two-way radio communication to alert each other about police activity in the area.

Captain Thulani Zwane of the KZN SAPS says the police unit received a tip-off about drug activity in Silver Heights Crescent in Chatsworth.

On arrival they searched a suspicious-looking group of men along the side of the road. They arrested one of the men after they found the drugs in his pockets. Chetty was charged with the possession of drugs and appeared at the Chatsworth Magistrates court yesterday. The case has been remanded to 23 September 2014

During the follow up investigation at the scene, members found another packet containing 19 pieces of cocaine with the street value of R1900.
