Action. 2010. 117 min. With Mel Gibson, Ray Winstone and Danny Huston. Director: Martin Campbell. 16VL.

Action hero Mel Gibson is back on the screen in all his glory – but following recent accusations of domestic violence and idiotic statements to the media this may also be the last time anyone takes him seriously as an actor.

His character here is reminiscent of the one he played in the Lethal Weapon movies – tough as nails and full of witty one-liners, even if he’s a bit out of breath after each fight scene. He plays a detective, Thomas Craven, whose daughter – a 24-year-old activist – is shot dead in front of him. Later a lock of her hair tests positive for radioactivity. Thomas seeks revenge – and soon finds himself sucked deep into a case he may not escape from alive.

The two hours’ running time gets a bit much but there are enough surprises and shocks to make it worthwile.

Bonus: Interviews with the director and actors; deleted scenes.
