Witty Fun

Rating 3/5

Action comedy. 2010. 88 min. With Steve Carell, Tina Fey and Mark Wahlberg.

Director: Shawn Levy. 13PGL.

Tina Fey and Steve Carell are among the funniest people currently in showbiz. Put them together and you’ve got fireworks!

Phil (Carell) and Claire (Fey) Foster are an average suburban couple. Trying to put back the spark in their humdrum existence, and marriage, they set off for a romantic evening in New York City. But things go horribly awry when they’re mistaken for criminals who’ve run foul of the mafia...

Before they know it they’re involved in a high-speed chase through the streets of Manhattan with the mafia as well as the cops on their tail. Things look up when a hunky superspy-type (Wahlberg) comes to their aid, but they end up in a strip club where they have to pole-dance to save their butts – with hilarious results.

If you enjoy frothy fun you’ll love the witty script and while your attention may occasionally drift, Date Night is among the better recent comedies. Just the thing if you’re in need of good, light entertainment. Bonus: featurettes, deleted scenes.
