Action Adventure. 2010. 120 min. with Robert Downey Jnr, Mickey Rourke and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Director: Jon Favreau. 13PGV.

The story picks up from the first movie in which Tony Stark (Downey Jnr) revealed he’s Iron Man. Now the US military wants his technology, but he refuses, in typical Stark style: “I’ve successfully privatised world peace. What more do you want?” Then James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) steals Tony’s suit and unleashes an army of fighting machines...

Although the fight scenes don’t come close to those of the first instalment, the villain–Mickey Rourke in all his brilliant madness as Ivan Vanko, aka Whiplash – is very entertaining. Tony is still trying to impress his love, Pepper Potts (Paltrow), who looks as if she’d rather be at home cooking, but watch out for Scarlett Johansson as a sexy Catwoman-like action hero.

Things get a bit predictable towards the end but Downey Jnr’s off-beat sense of humour and charm will keep you watching. Bonus: commentary.
