Romantic comedy. 2010. 108 min.

With Josh Duhamel, Katherine Heigl and Josh Lucas.

Director: greg berlanti. 13PgL.

After their mutual best friends die, Holly (Heigl) and Messer (Duhamel) are literally left holding the baby. Named as their goddaughter’s guardians, uptight Holly and hunky Messer decide to look past their hate for each other and honour their friends’ wishes to raise one-year-old Sophie together.

Heigl and Duhamel have great chemistry and make a charming couple, but it’s not enough to make up for the iffy plot and bad script. The “you’ve inherited a baby from your dead friends” angle is fresh but the movie still sticks to the romcom handbook – there’s even a mad dash to the airport.

While there are some genuinely funny moments the movie relies too much on baby-poop jokes and odd-couple scenarios. Despite these flaws, you root for Holly and Messer and fans of the romantic comedy genre will enjoy it. Bonus: deleted scenes.
