A 36-year-old man was killed early on Friday morning in an argument in Cookhouse

A 36-year-old man was killed early on Friday morning in an argument in Cookhouse, near Cradock, Eastern Cape police said.

The man and an acquaintance had been drinking together when a quarrel broke out, Warrant Officer Elmarie van Eck said.

One of the men hit the other with a handmade axe handle and a belt.

Van Eck said the 36-year-old died on the scene.

A 38-year-old man was later arrested and would appear in court soon.
