Eastern Cape ANC canvass for Zuma

The ANC in the Eastern Cape has sent a team to three other provinces to canvass support for a second term for President Jacob Zuma, the Dispatch Online reported on Wednesday.

Provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane said the team, led by Eastern Cape chairman Phumulo Masualle, had already met party structures in KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and the Free State structures.

"We are arranging meetings with other provinces who propose a somewhat different line-up to ours, to discuss how best we can keep the ANC united because what is clear is that these different provinces are doing harm rather than unifying the ANC," he said.

The African National Congress in the Eastern Cape has indicated that it would encourage its branches to retain Zuma, deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe, secretary-general Gwede Mantashe and national chairwoman Baleka Mbethe.
