SEASONS have changed, trees have grown tall and even presidents have come and gone, but for one family time has stood still. It was exactly 10 years ago that the Nation family lost their beloved 11-year-old son when he became the youngest victim in the Ellis Park stampede that left 43 dead.

This year the young soccer fan would have turned 21, but instead of a joyous party to celebrate his entry into manhood, young Rosswin Nation's family – and the many other families who lost loved ones that day – will remember the day in private. They will also remember the boy's 34-yearold uncle, Calvin Arnolds, who was crushed in the incident.

"I can't believe it's 10 years – it feels like it happened yesterday, or just last year," the boy's father Roy (47) says from their house in Ennerdale, south of Joburg.
