She made her TV debut as the third Doobsie on SABC2’s popular soap Muvhango and went on to star in the drama series For Sale, SABC3’s The Lab, e.tv soap Rhythm City and The

Mating Game on SABC2.

And while she’s currently one of the judges on SABC1’s reality dance show, Dance Your Butt Off! there’s much more to

vivacious Khabonina Qubeka (30) than meets the eye.

The talented performer is also a singer, dancer, choreographer as well as a socially

responsible businesswoman. Khabo, as she’s affectionately known, is clearly a woman of many talents.

Although she’s a regular on the small screen, dance has always been her first

love, which is why the multi-talented star opened a business rooted in dance.

“My love of dance and the performing arts started in my mother’s womb in 1981,” says Khabo. Her mom, Portia, is a talented

opera singer from the Royal School of Music who sang with the respected choir Imilonji Ka Ntu.

Portia also writes music and took little Khabo along to the Fuba Academy in Newtown where she trained. “She took voice lessons in Newtown and one day I ventured

upstairs and discovered a dance class in progress. I was just five years old when I told my mom I wanted to join the class,” Khabo shares.

After school she studied choreography at Moving into Dance, a Newtown dance school, where she learnt physical theatre,

the history of dance, Afro-fusion and artist management.

Khabo turned her love of dance into a business venture called Khabodacious Moves and she teaches dance to people

who want to keep fit in a fun way.
