Many of the traffic corridors around the country are experiencing high volumes of cars as people head to their holiday destinations on Saturday, the RTMC said.

"Major routes are experiencing volumes in the excess of 2000 plus vehicles per hour during their peaks," Road Traffic Management Corporation spokesperson Thato Mosena told Sapa.

"We are expecting the numbers to increase as people will be making their way to enjoy Christmas weekend in different provinces."

She said the ports of entries, mainly the Beit Bridge border post in Limpopo leading to Zimbabwe and the Lebombo border post in Mpumalanga leading to Mozambique would experience increased activity on December 23 and 24 and warned of possible delays.

"Border posts will experience major delays on December 23-24 and December 30-31 outbound. There will again be delays on January 5-6 inbound," she said. - Sapa
