I wondered how people would react - Mayeni

Mzansi Magic's new reality show about polygamy Uthando neSthembu which has had only one episode aired has continued to trend since it debut. The show follows the life of businessman Musa Mseleku and his four wives, Mamkhulu (First Wife), Mayeni (Second Wife), Makhumalo (Third Wife), and Mangwabe (Fourth Wife) and how they navigate their lives.

DRUM chatted to Musa's second wife Mayeni on the show and how she ended up being in a polygamous relationship.

So ever since your show debuted, its been trending. How do you feel about that?

Excited, am glad people are enjoying our show. I was nervous initially before the show aired, I wondered how people would react but I am glad of the current response.

What made  you decide to do a reality show?

Well it was Musa who convinced us and helped us see the vision he had for the show and as a family after understanding it, we then made the decision to do the show.

So usually, most people say they don't want to share a partner. How did you agree to become a second wife?

It wasn't easy, especially because when Musa and Mamkhulu (First Wife) got married I was in the picture as I was engaged to him already.

Weren't you hurt by seeing him get married to her?

Well it wasn't easy but that didn't affect or end our relationship. There was a lot of transparency and that made the situation manageable.

How would you describe what it's like being in a polygamous relationship?

Normal. That's how I would describe it.

Really, some would say its  abnormal.

We live normal lives and we all feel loved and are loved.

You are a nurse, so we can't say you decided to stay because of the money. Why did you agree to be a second wife, what was your core reason?

I love Musa and I knew we could make it work.

Advice to other couples out there about polygamy?

Do it if it's something you know will work for you and everyone else involved.

Uthando neSthembu airs at 8pm every Thursday on Mzansi Magic Dstv Channel 161
