Founder of the world's most popular social network, Facebook, Mark Zuckerburg has announced that the site will be launching a dislike button soon.

BBC reports that Zuckerburg was speaking at a Q&A session at the social network's headquarters in Menlo Park, California when he announced that the button would be used as a way of expressing empathy.

"People have asked about the 'dislike' button for many years," Zuckerburg said.

"Probably hundreds of people have asked about this, and today is a special day because today is the day I actually get to say we are working on it, and are very close to shipping a test on it," he told a gathered audience.

The 31-year-old also went on to say that the purpose of the dislike button would be for it to be used for a post that one's friends may not agree with or makes them sad.

The exact date of when the dislike button will be launched was not revealed.

We're just hoping that this new feature won't be abused too soon after it's launched.
