Fears of Limpopo serial killer

Members of the Thohoyandou community are plagued by fears of a serial killer on the loose.

Last week the body of a cleaner was found near the University of Venda in Limpopo.

The woman was found near the university’s administration block after she had been raped and beaten to death.

Four women have been killed at or near the university in Thohoyandou since the start of the year.

This has led to fears of a serial killer on the loose, prompting police to establish an investigation team.

Three of the women were students who were either stabbed or strangled, with at least two of them being raped.

The Limpopo department of safety, security and liaison said all the members of the police team investigating the murders were experienced officers.

The president of the university’s students’ representative council, Fukie Uhuru Mofokeng, demanded that the head of safety be fired and the contract of the university’s security company be terminated.

The campus was often full of non-students and equipment had frequently been “lost”, he said.

Fears by members of the Thohoyandou community of a serial killer have been further fueled by the abduction of  a nine-year-old girl.

She was taken from her school, raped and murdered.

The body of the little girl was found near where a badly injured University of Venda student was recently found.
