Celebrities came out to play for the annual awards show.

By Hopewell Mpapu While his personal life makes tabloid fodder, he’s being appreciated elsewhere for his other talents. Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba bagged a gong for the Best-Styled Male at the gay-friendly Feather Awards last night, which were held at the City Hall in the Johannesburg CBD. In his acceptance speech, Malusi thanked his many followers for choosing him. “Thank you so much for this – it means a lot to be appreciated even in fashion, because I'm not a typical politician," he said.

Meanwhile, Bonang Matheba gave the event a miss, even though she was nominated in Drama Queen of the Year category – she did win, if it’s any consolation. Tall-A$$ Mo, who co-hosted the event with Live Amp's Lootlove, appeared dressed in drag.

Other winners included LBGTI activist Steve Letsike in the category as Best Role Model. Rapper Ricky Rick walked away with the Musician of the Year gong while Mpho Maboi netted the Sports Personality of the Year award and actor Atandwa Kani took the Fag Hag of the year award.

Banyana Banyana’s Portia Modise took the top honours with the Feather of the Year Award. For more on Malusi Gigaba's cheating scandal, grab your latest copy of Drum magazine.
